The MYTH of the kraken, is Scandinavian in origin. There's a difference between the origin of words, and the origin of myths. Historical references to the Kraken in journals of its sightings never actually describe it as a squid, it's actually described purely as "So big, it resembles land more than any sea creature", so closer to the description of a large whale, than a squid, really. Another theory is that the depiction of a Kraken is of an Octopus or Squid, because it's the german word for that. No, the LEGEND or MYTH or whatever you wanna call it is, the name in of itself is german or germanic, Krake means "squid" or "Octopus" in german. So yes the name of it is specifically Scandinavian Why did you even say that without considering this first? o_. Culture spreads, but it always originates somewhere. Also, i said it ORIGINATED in scandinavia, never said it was exlusive to it. That's your giant squid isn’t just Scandinavian folk lore, many a sailor have so called seen such a creature.
